Adoption Process:
I finally started working again and reinstated our process to adopt from China. Our home study had been updated and papers sent to the USCIS Dept. (Immigration). Now the lengthy process began again. Many pages of legal paperwork needed to be filled out, medical records to be submitted, dr. appointments to go to, and many seminars to take online about adoption, to complete. At times it got very overwhelming, because of the information overload coming from many areas. Moments like this, the internet becomes your best friend.
I did a lot of research and found that there were many online adoption groups and forums that were accessible to join. I joined an online adoption group of parents, through my adoption agency that adopted children from China and contacted a few families, and received wonderful support and helpful advice from them.
I also joined a local online group within my community, where I kept updated of the activities and events going on with the local group. I highly recommend an adoption support group. The process can be very overwhelming from all aspects and the support group is there to help with wonderful advice and offers you the opporunity to read about other stories and experiences that other familes have gone through. Another great resource is YouTube, go and search for videos of families who have adopted and have posted their stories to share with others.
This helps you prepare mentally for your reunion with your child, when the time comes. Become very good friends with your case worker, as that is the person that can provide you with great advice and give you references of families who already have gone through the process and can assist you with any questions you may have. In the end not only do you add a new member to your family, but you also gain new friends within the adoption community that you become very close too.
